Email Spam

Definition

Email Spam is email that the recipient has not given permission to receive, and is therefore unsolicited. It is almost always bulk email, often consisting of emails captured through the use of spambots. It may not adhere to the requirements of the CAN-Spam Act of 2003.

However, a message is email spam only if it is both unsolicited and bulk email:

  • Unsolicited Email as normal email: job enquiries, sales enquiries, and introductions
  • Bulk Email as normal email: subscription newsletters, product launch campaigns, and business updates.
