How to write a company profile (without getting overwhelmed)

consultingtemplate

  1. Summarize what makes your company unique.
  2. Include pertinent company contact information where a potential customer can learn more about you.
  3. Provide a company history, possibly in the form of a timeline, that showcases major milestones that would help a customer understand your value.
  4. Provide your company’s mission, vision and values in addition to your products and services.
  5. Showcase your team. People like working with people they know, like, and trust.
  6. Include awards won by individuals and by the company.

What to put in your company profile:

A good company profile includes seven things:

  1. Company Summary
  2. Company History
  3. Meet the Team
  4. Mission / Vision / Values
  5. Competitors
  6. Testimonials
  7. Recognition

Company Summary

Here, you’ll briefly introduce your company including a high level overview of the following sections. Pair down information to the level at which it’s most valuable for your ideal customer.

Focus here on your by “why,” the meaning behind what you do and who you do it for.

Company History

Sometimes, giving the company’s history can also be valuable as it relates to the product or service you provide today. Again, limit yourself to information that’s valuable to your customers, not a definition autobiography of you and your company.

Meet the Team

People like to work with other people they know and trust, so in this section you can focus on your company leadership or the company as a whole (or both). Help customers understand how your team makes you the best choice to work with.

Mission / Vision / Values

Having something to say is the most important thing in marketing your company, so this section will highlight what the company stands for, what it doesn’t, and where the company is headed in the future.

Competitors

Highlighting a direct comparison to competitors may not be for everybody, but it’s highly recommended to address them in your company profile. If a customer is doing their research (and they always do), they’re going to know who your competitors are. We can choose to own that narrative here in our company profile.

Testimonials

Adding one (or two) customer testimonials shows two important things to a prospective customer:

  1. They aren’t alone in choosing you.
  2. This isn’t your first rodeo.

Insert a customer testimonial (or two) that demonstrates the value of your business. The best customer testimonials include the transformation that the customer saw: where they started and where they are today.

Recognition

Third-party awards help solidify the understanding that a customer already has from your competitive comparison and testimonials. For example, here is how ActiveCampaign shows our recognition on our affiliate page:
