Email Marketing 5.2 now supports a dedicated custom subscriber field for date input.
In the past, you had to create a standard text field, and users would input dates in any format they could conjure up. And believe us, the various formats could be quite diverse!
Here are some examples of date formats we’ve seen when using a standard text field for input:
- Dec 10, 2010
- december 10 2010
- Dec – 10 , 2010
If you’ve used a standard text field for date input, I’m sure you can provide more examples!
It’s nice to allow any format, but when it comes to running reports or filtering lists via segments, having dates in multiple formats is essentially useless.
The new Date Field should help clear this up!
You can have it default to blank, or the current date:
On the public Subscribe and Your Account pages, a calendar widget will appear for date fields. The user can select the date from the widget, which provides a consistent date format.
We are still making improvements to this, so if you have suggestions, please let us know.
Also, if you need an example on why to use a custom subscriber date field, sending birthday wishes is a great idea!
