Perform Automated Actions on Link Clicks

Now when a contact clicks a link in your email campaign, you’ll be able to automatically perform a variety of actions.

You can:

  • Add tags
  • Remove tags
  • Subscribe to list
  • Unsubscribe from list
  • Add to automation
  • End automation

You can add as many actions as you like so that a single click fires off a variety of automated processes:

If you send catalog-like emails showcasing many products, you can apply interest tags as contacts click product links and then automatically drop them into a follow-up sequence focused on promoting that product with related content and targeted offers.

You can have contacts click confirmation links that then begin automations that trigger webhooks and follow-up messages.

Link Actions make it easier than ever to automate your marketing and is one of a series of incremental improvements we’ve made lately.

this is great, is it possible to save the links, with associated actions to re-use in future emails?

    • Brian Gladu

Hi Louise, At this time, this isn’t possible. You can’t save link actions into content blocks because they are specific to the campaign.

      • Louise Beattie

Thanks for the reply Brian. This would be a great feature to add. ConvertKit have something they call Link Triggers I think. Basically, you can set up a link trigger, with various actions and then when writing a campaign you can select add Link Trigger and choose one from a drop down menu.

This is a really great time saving feature that would be great to have in AC :-)

I’ve been waiting for this! It’s make tagging so much easier. Question though, will the Automated Actions on Link Clicks be added under the “Automations” tab?

    • Brian Gladu

Hi Allan, Currently they are only accessible through the link actions modal in the email designer. Let me know if you have any other questions.

  • Sam Burrough

That is awesome! I only voted for this on Monday and now it’s live. You’re setting quite a high standard to live up to ;-)

  • Great work guys! :)

  • WHOA!!!

  • guiavila

Wow, that is great. I am really impressed with all the effort AC have been making with these latest features. Incredible.

  • This is a fantastic new feature. Thanks a lot.
    Dale.

  • Great job ActiveCampaign team! Thank you very much!

  • Beautiful! You guys rock!

  • This is the best! Huge time saver. Thanks guys, you are on fire.

  • This one is game changer :)

  • Perfect! Thanks.

  • Juho Tunkelo

Ahhhh finally, sooo great. Thanks guys :)

  • What a cool new feature. You all continue to amaze me.

  • Jared Osborne

Awesome! I was just about to build triggers off a number of pages to get my different lists to work as I want them to, now I don’t have to. Thank you!

  • Any chance you could also add this to the “legacy” email editor – a whole load of us use the old editor as, well, it’s a lot better than the new one. Apart from this!

    • Brian Gladu

Good question, Ian. We have no plans to add this feature to the legacy editor at this time.

      • What Ian said.

        • Yes. Especially as I’ve discovered that because the new email builder uses a fixed width for all emails, it’s not actually mobile responsive (well, technically it is – but the text is so small it can’t be read on a mobile).

          • Brian Gladu

Hi Ian, I replied to you in more detail here. We released a fix for that issue (which affected Android devices) about a month ago.

      • Can we add that as a feature request then. I think you’ll find a huge number of your “power users” (and biggest supporters/promoters) use the legacy editor.

    • I’ve just realised you can’t add the link tracking to the “legacy” email editor, only the new one. Please, please, please add it to the “legacy” one as I much prefer writing in HTML rather than designing using the new editor and being limited to which fonts I can use etc.

  • Is this available in the HTML editor as well?

    • jvandeboom

Not at the moment, but possibly in future

  • Thanks, cool update!
Although it could have been done before, but now it’s much easier with the editor emails. Maybe right here is done automatic resend for campaigns ?

  • h2oMatt

This looks great. I’m just wondering how it would work with multiple links on the same page.

I’m just setting up a small campaign now to ask subscribers where they’re at in their journey (beginner, intermediate or advanced).

Whichever link they click, I would like to add a tag to their profile. It seems I can’t make all the links point to one place, though.

Is there a simple way of doing that so I don’t have to create 3 separate pages for the 3 separate links to point to?

Overall, I’m really enjoying using Active Campaign having struggled with getting Infusionsoft off the ground for the past few months.

    Thanks,

    Matt

    • Brian Gladu

Hi Matt! Great, happy to hear this is useful to you.

What you may want to do is add a parameter onto the end of the url. Something like “mattsdomain.com?link1.” It will still redirect to the same page but it won’t register as a duplicate link. Let me know if you have any other questions about this.

      • h2oMatt

        Cool! Thanks Brian.

I’ll give that a go — it’s a much cleaner option than having 3 separate pages.

        Thanks again :)

  • Is the old editor the one with the HTML on the left and the output on the right? That’s really handy. I can’t see how to add a tag based on a link though? If I move to the new editor then all the HTML gets reformatted which is annoying. Am a bit stuck.

    • Brian Gladu

Hi Mike! It sounds like you are using the HTML editor and then moving to the Visual Editor. The Link Actions feature is only available in the Designer interface. So, you’d need to create a new campaign and then choose one of the provided templates, or “Newsletter,” “Right column,” or “Left column” from the “Build from Scratch” options.

  • Nir Sharabi

how can i use this in the html editor? (i need the editor for RTL language)

    • Brian Gladu

We don’t have any plans to add this functionality to the HTML editor.

I set the Link Action “Add tag” inserted the tag, but nothing happen when click!
    Any suggestions?

  • Can this be applied retrospectively? Maybe using an automation to say “if contact clicked link X, apply tag Y”?

    • Brian Gladu

Yes, you’d do this by doing an Advanced Search for people who have clicked the link and then use Bulk Edit to apply the tag.
