Call to Action

Definition

A call to action (or CTA) refers to the phrase or button that a marketer presents to potential customers. The goal of a call to action is to nudge people towards a specific action that is valuable to the marketiner – like signing up for an email list, downloading content, or making a purchase.

A call to action can relate to specific actions like “Buy Now” or “Click Here,” but the best calls to action are personalized to the target customer.

How do you write a call to action phrase?

3 steps to writing a call to action:

  • Begin with a verb (action) such as call, contact, click, download, or read.
  • Imply urgency if there is reason to do so using words like “today,” or “now.”
  • Tell your audience WHY they should take the recommended action.

How long is a call to action?

A call to action can be as short as two words (see the example below) or a value-based sentence / phrase.

What is a call to action example?

The simplest example of a call to action is “buy now” on an ecommerce product page.
