Translating 1-2-All into your language

1-2-All language files are located in the /12all/lang/ directory. Each language is stored in a single file there, named:

lang.LanguageName.txt
If the language you would like to use is not already included with 1-2-All or available in the Support Forums, you can create your own custom language file.

First, make a copy of lang.Example.txt and rename it to reflect the language you'll be using. For example, lang.Piglatin.txt. When you open this file in a text editor, you will find that each line contains a single word or phrase in English followed by an empty set of quotes into which you will want to type your translation of that phrase. For example:

"Your account settings have been updated." = ""

             would become:

"Your account settings have been updated." = "Ouryay accountway ettingssay avehay eenbay updatedway. "

When you are finished downloading or creating your translated language file, ensure it is named according to the rules described here and uploaded to the lang directory of your 1-2-All installation. Then, open up a web browser, log into your 1-2-All administration panel, and click on the "Settings" tab. There you will find a dropdown box for Languages which will include your newly uploaded translation.

Be sure you have set the appropriate character encoding. This setting is immediately beneath the "Language" setting, and will prevent users from seeing question marks, boxes, or nonsense characters in place of your text. The most common character sets are "utf-8" and "iso-8859-1". For information on which character set might be the most appropriate for your purposes, take a look at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Character_set.
