Conditions

Conditions are similar to page branching except that questions do not appear on the page unless the conditions that you set are met.  Conditions create a tree structure that allows you to customize your survey based on a participant's responses to questions on previous pages so that a question with condition will appear on page only if set conditions are met.   If a condition is met for response A then content based on set condition will appear on page X.   If the condition is not met then the question based on the condition does not appear on page X.   This is best explained with an example.  It would not make sense to have questions about Windows servers on page 2 of your survey if your respondent said they use Linux servers on page 1 of your survey.   If instead said they use windows servers then Windows specific server questions would appear on page 2.   These questions would disappear on page 2 if they said they used Linux servers and in their place, assuming you set conditions for both, Linux specific questions would appear in their case.

When creating a survey that involves conditions you must first add pages to your survey so that those pages are added as redirection pages when you edit a question.  Survey -> Add and then click on Edit Survey by the survey you just added after going to Survey -> Manage.

We'll use our Windows and Linux question as an example of conditions.  We will set up two conditions based on whether the respondent uses a Windows or a Linux server.  On the left side you will see an Add New Page Link.   Click on this twice so that you will see an Add New Page Link.  Click on this once so that there is a Page 2.

On the drop down menu scroll down to Choice - Multiple Answers (Checkboxes).   Enter in Windows Server and Linux Server as your Answer options.  Click on Save.

Now you will need to go to the Edit Survey and create a question on Page 2 that is based on the respondents response to either Windows Server or Linux Server.   We're going to just ask for feedback to see why they use either Windows or Linux.  On the drop down menu scroll down to Open Ended - Multiple Lines.   Create a question asking the respondent why they use windows servers or linux servers respectively.

On the Edit Survey page you can now add conditions for use of both Windows and Linux Servers.   The questions will only appear on page 2 based on whether the respondent chose Windows, Linux, or both servers.
