Next time you visit the download page you should notice a new type of download available. Upgrade Patches. Now you can generate your own special download that is tailored for upgrading your install.

With the new upgrade patch options you can choose what version you are upgrading from and what type of encoding (zend or ioncube) you use. After making those selections simply click download! The resulting download will only include files that were changed and need to be uploaded.

This should make the process of upgrading much easier for many of our clients. There is no need to scan a changed file list or upload the whole distribution.
Please let us know if you have any comments or questions regarding this!

We’ve published the first minor revision of SwiftTraction’s short, production history. It has several bug fixes, and a new feature suggested by one of our users: you can now set a specific date when you add time entries in Hours mode. (Previously, the “date” would always have been the day that you made the time entry.) Thanks to all of our users; we hope you like the new release!

SwiftTraction, our new time-management solution, is growing stronger by the day.
The latest addition to the beta version of this exciting upcoming product is a full-service Windows desktop client.
The software installs on your local workstation, and connects to your SwiftTraction web server application to allow you to clock in and out of any of the projects or actions you’re working on. Setup is effortless, requiring nothing more than the address of your normal web login page for SwiftTraction along with your username and password.

Like the SwiftTraction web interface, all your menus and time settings automagically adjust themselves to reflect the project you’re currently looking at, and any changes you make are updated on the server in real time.
The application’s interface is small and clean, and happily stays out of your way by minimizing to your system tray. The system tray menu offers the option to open the primary SwiftTraction interface, start or stop any task, clock in, or clock out, all with one-click convenience.

The SwiftTraction beta just got a new report that displays the relationship between your set time estimates for each project and the actual time spent on the projects so far. This is a good thing for two reasons.
First, and perhaps somewhat obviously, having constant access to your running totals and visual representations of your progress just makes it easier to think about the project. Having this information at the ready gives you room to conceptualize how you’re going to allocate your resources and direct your team to finish the project on time before you end up in the crisis situation of being over-time and over-budget.

Secondly, most projects end up costing more and taking longer than we at first anticipate. There just isn’t any way to accurately estimate the amount of time a project is going to take us, short of the specific expertise that a project manager can develop over a period of years working in the same environment. This is not only because it takes that long to understand the intricacies of the problems your teams are solving–and it does–but also because it takes time to understand the dynamics of the team itself: the attitudes and patterns of decision-making, the types of emergencies that come up, even the impact that vacations and holidays are likely to have on completion times.
SwiftTraction is quickly arriving at a point where it will be able to decrease this organizational learning curve by giving direct, immediate feedback on project time estimates versus actual completion times. This report is a first major piece of that development.
